So, I was going through more IMP magazines today and something caught my eye about Hildy and her origins. She was featured on the front corner of an issue, then as a main story pup and in another issue was a featured profile pup. So she was definetely a pup that was considered part of the main collection. My thoughts on how she did become available, but there are so few of her, are that she was a figure given as an extra to those who were competition winners from the magazine. Or given to those who wrote in a letter, as an exclusive extra (on top of any prize given to those who had a letter featured). I say this because the company were really good at giving away free items to kids who wrote to them. After I received the first PimP Club Letter, I wrote to them asking questions about the soon to be released Pony in My Pockets. They wrote back to me and included with the letter a brand new Pony pack (set 1) to "start me off on my pony collection", plus a box of random puppy figures (similar to those you sent away for with the cereal boxes). Anyway, I just thought this might explain why Hildy figures do exist out there, but why there are so few of them.

That's a great possibility. I'm struggling to see the issue number on it. Will have to look at Piddy's magazines.

That is amazing! I know so little of Hildy and it really is a mystery. I wish we had answers from some insider! Great theory btw. I think you're onto something!

I'm more sorry that as a child I wasn't really collecting the figures much by that point and I had definetely stopped getting the magazines. Perhaps if I had, I would either remember something of her availability or had one myself haha. I was one of those kids who would send their drawings into magazines. Got one featured in The Lion King magazine once and I was super proud of that. 😂 Btw, my box of random pups I got from the club were just a mix of pups from season 2, nothing amazing haha.

I definitely agree with the theory that she was a competition prize seeing as so few figures of her have been found/seen over the years. Does anyone know how many more magazines there were after Hildy first started being mentioned in issues, as well as how many more competitions were run by the magazine during this time? This might help give us a possible number on how many Hildy figures there is (that is if she was a competition extra/top prize figure to be won) I would love for another Hildy to show up somewhere (I strongly believe she will one day, perhaps in a huge eBay lot from someone selling their collection) Again, this could also lead to her origin if the seller remembers getting her as a figure

I do think it's a likely possibility. That issue with Hildy on the front was issue 17 of the Special magazine series. I think they went up to the 30s.

Just looking through the forum and saw that a Hildy figure showed up on eBay a few years ago, along with some other common figures at a really cheap Buy It Now price. I was wondering if anyone ever contacted the seller to ask if they knew where they acquired Hildy from, especially if they were a collector of them back during the time they were available It might lead to nothing but it could lead us somewhere in the mystery of where she originally came from

I did ask the seller but that did not know where they came from. But it did seem that any of the Hildys that did show up came from Essex, which is where one of manufacturers was, so it may be that they escaped from the factory, if you see what I mean?
So far no real idea what happened.

Oh, that's interesting, Piddy! So all Hildys may be factory escapees.

Is a possibility, as well as #99 Buster versions in black too.

I had no idea how rare Hildy was until i started doing research today. Ive put my entire collection up on ebay today (need to pay the bills somehow) 🙈 This was before i knew just how rare she was. But if anyone is interested, I have a listing for Buster and Hildy together. I will be letting the auction run so no 'buy it now' requests im afraid. Just thought some may be interested.
