Rarity Guide for IMPHellooo! I made a rarity guide because I thought it might be useful. I noticed a lot of folks asking how rare their items are and how much they're worth. And instead of always bugging Jenna or Piddy to evaluate their figures, I thought a handy spreadsheet might be easier. ^_^ I'm certainly not the authority on which figures are rare or not, but I used information on this forum, Ebay listings, Jenna's website and Piddy's collection images to determine how rare each figure might be. I also only did the puppies, kitties, and ponies, because the farther we get from puppies, the weaker my knowledge is since I'm only collecting those, haha. TBH, I'm unsure about the rarity of a lot of the kitty and pony figures, and some variants, so I did my best to estimate with the information I had. If you think I've estimated a figure's rarity incorrectly, please let me know and I'll be happy to update it! I could definitely use help on the family sets. I'm happy to continue estimating rarity for the teddies, bunnies, etc., I just need more help with those as I'm very unfamiliar with them. I only have four categories of rarity: Common, Uncommon, Rare, and Holy Grail. The methodology for each category is in more detail on the spreadsheet. I didn't want to be too nit-picky about it, I just wanted to give a general guideline so people don't overpay for something that's really common. Admittedly, these categories are quite subjective (What is the threshold between common and uncommon? Rarity can vary depending on your country. etc). I could introduce more objectivity (example: Common is listed for sale daily or weekly), but I'd need a little help on determining the standards for each category. If folks think I should have fewer categories or make them more objective, let's discuss it! I did not include values for anything, as I feel like that's kind of subjective. But if folks want me to add values to the different rarities, let me know average prices and I'll update that as well. Generally I listed: Most puppies as common. Most cereal figures as uncommon. Most send-away offers as uncommon. Most series 4 puppies as uncommon. All series 2 ponies as uncommon. All series 3 kitties as rare. All mini pups as rare. All comic figures as rare. All Secret Heart series as rare. Only Buster and Hildy as "Holy Grail." I hope this guide is helpful to folks! Please feel free to make suggestions! This is an evolving document that I want to be informed by the collector community.

I just checked this out and it's already been super helpful-- turns out the four kitties I just picked up are Canada only releases and I had no idea.
For the families, did their 'rare' factor have to do with the fact it's hard to find the whole family with the tiny babies in tact?

Great work there, had a quick look and noticed on Puppies for 78 and 79 you have the rare 3rd puppy in wrong box, they should be in box for 79 and 80 not 78. Will have a good look later, certainly makes interesting reading. Thanks

I wasn't sure how to go about estimating rarity for the families. I decided to not factor in if it was an entire family for sale and just go by if I've seen any of the puppies/mom's for sale online. I worry that if I go by complete family sets, then almost all of them would be rare, since those babies are so tiny. Maybe this is an update I could make to the families? And separate them into complete and incomplete? A lot of the families ended up being listed as rare just because I haven't seen them listed over the last few months that I've been actively searching every day. As someone who isn't collecting families and I'm mostly looking on US ebay, my searches are probably biased. But I do have a general search for "puppy in my pocket" that I get updates for daily, so I do see the families if they pop up under that tag. So if you have better insight into how rare they are, let me know and I can update the list!

Your insight into the rarity of items would definitely be appreciated, as you probably know more than most of us!

Oh I have no idea how rare anything is, besides basic common sense like season 1 are common and mailaways are harder to find. If you haven't seen them often, your judgment is probably right. Thanks again for compiling the list, it's super helpful for newbies like me

This is such a neat resource, thank you for making it! I didn’t realize the secret hearts were considered rare. Is it just because they were North American exclusive? I’m in the US and had all the secret hearts (well, puppy, kitty, and pony), but I’m realizing now that I never saw them in stores - I actually directly mail ordered mine from Irwin Toy. I wonder if they were not widely distributed? Anyway, thanks again for putting so much work into this!

I would say the Secret Hearts are uncommon to rare, given their late release and exclusivity to North America. I bought my Secret Hearts puppies at Toys R Us. I sooo wish I had a photo of the IMP section from that day. I feel like I saw Teddies and maybe the Piggies set. Sigh!

I think I’m learning from various conversations on this forum that my Toys R Us didn’t get a lot of sets that were actually available in other locations, haha. I really started to suspect at some point that most of the figures from the collectafiles didn’t even exist! Thank god for the internet, lol.

I really started to suspect at some point that most of the figures from the collectafiles didn’t even exist! Thank god for the internet, lol. My reasoning for listing them as rare is because I haven't seen them listed for sale anywhere over he las few months that I've been looking, and also their limited countries of release. I listed a figure as uncommon if I have seen it for sale at least a few times. I've definitely seen the SH teddies and I found some ponies when I looked to make this list, but I have yet to see the puppies or kitties. But obviously I haven't been searching as long as Jenna has, haha, so I can update those if she thinks rare is too.... I dunno how to put it? Intense? Too much of a rarity factor? Haha. I'm a little concerned that my threshold between each category might be off? I kind of wanted each category to have the same weight, like the step up from common to uncommon feels the same as the step up from uncommon to rare (which is why I listed quite a few things as rare). But really I feel like qualifying something as rare is quite a jump from uncommon, isn't it? The term "rare" give it such gravitas. Haha. What do folks think? And being in the US I also have all the SH puppies (and I had the kitties too, but currently my niece has them). I wanted those series 3 puppies from the collectafiles so badly as a kid! But of course I never did find them. As soon as I have the money I'm buying up all those series 3s and finally fulfilling the desires of my inner child.

It was neat to see that some of mine, including faves and ones from childhood, are rare. (Which does sound stronger than "a bit less common than the other uncommons," but I think it technically applies.) Oh, to have had the foresight to take pictures of Bradlees...it was not only the greatest store ever and should've remained in business thanks to my mom+grandma+me by ourselves, but the end of the girl-toy aisle with the PiMPs/KiMPs and Polly Pockets was always such a beautiful sight to behold. Far as I recall all the pups I was able to get as a kid came from there, probably including the Christmas-gift ones...oh, except for Herman the Dachshund, Bradley's brown-eyed twin, who was in a blind bag on a bakery counter a bit later on. Some might've come from the also-amazing Toys R Us or even other toy shops/places, though. :'}
