I probably shouldn't be posting this, (as it reveals to everyone what a complete pushover I am:) ), but does anyone else feel bad about bidding on ebay auctions that someone else has already placed a bid on? You know, like you come to a listing and you see something in it that you don't have in your collection yet: do you think twice about placing a bid when the listing already has one or more bids on it? I know I do. If there are 5 or more bids I normally leave it, because if there's that much attention it will probably get quite expensive before it finally sells. But even if there's only 1 bid on the auction I still feel bad about entering my own bid... ^^;

Haha, I know what you mean! If it's something I really want I don't mind so much bidding against others. But if it's something I'm "meh" about I'll only bid if no one else has.

I don't like bidding on items others have bid on either. I don't as much feel bad though, as much as I know they will probably set up an auto bid and it will get crazy expensive. Just makes it seem pointless I'm a "buy it now" person, through and through. Best offers are good too. There is one ebay user that I see on most IMP auctions. If they have bid, I don't bother because they use auto bid and set the price very high. Impossible to win without spending a fortune. I lost some good lots to them *cries softly* I'm kidding, mostly

I didn't think about it until I found this forum and the people who may have been losing out to me. I try not to think about it too much.

Yeah, getting away from eBay was a big part of why I created this forum!

And am I ever glad you did, Jenna. My collection would not be where it is today without this forum And without 90sinmypocket, I'd be fairly clueless about variants and such. So much nicer buying from here than Ebay XD

How can you tell Archie is his name? I thought all ebay bids were anonymous. When I look at the bid history all I see are two letters. How often does this guy bid anyway? There are a couple of people I see that bid on just about everything. I don't know how they afford everything they must win. Ones I want don't come up too often, and I don't really spend my money on many things (although a fair bit might go on 1000-20000 piece Jigsaws), so I can save up for the ones I want when they come up. It means I can afford to put in a rather high max bid, so I hope this Archie person isn't actually me. Having said that, I haven't been in a proper bidding war since Mid-November when I won the White Persian Cat Family that Piddy had up on ebay.

The two letter abbreviation it gives you is the same on every lot you bid on. Well, Archie's abbreviation is a***n. I noticed this person was bidding on almost every lot I looked at, and they set very very high autobids so it was pointless. I still see them on most lots. So I vented to Tasha about my frustration, and jokingly said the A and N stood for Arch Nemesis, who Tasha is referring to as Archie. It's just a joke mostly, so no offense to whoever that actually is Eh, if I had the means to win every lot I wanted- I would!! XD I find it kind of amusing actually, and sometimes if I see an item with a bid on it, I check to see if it was them... Even if I have no interest in the item!

I see that the competition exists here on ebay wars as well. Its always tough when you're a die hard collector. I haven't had the experience of bidding wars on IMP yet but it sounds frustrating. I've had my fair share for other collections. I just try to remember that no matter how rare that most things will come up again eventually someday. I too have made the mistake of setting my bids way too high, never actually expecting to pay that much but then having to. On a separate note jenny, I love jigsaws! Always have. Is there a certain brand or style you can recommend. I used to be big into the 3D puzzles but now just do any that I can find. There something relaxing about it, keeping you in the moment. everything else just fades away

Ugh, i don't like this max bid business. It's pretty much a guarantee I'll lose out because I never want to pay a ton. And I just checked the last item I bid and lost, and sure enough, Archie won! (You guys are too funny naming him Archie! Hopefully they don't take it personally!)

I refuse to use autobid. I just don't trust it. I know they say to put the most you'd want to pay, but I have no clue what that is! XD I like to budget my collection money, so letting a system throw it around all willy-nilly doesn't work for me Also just like Jenna, I don't like paying a ton for things. At least not yet. I usually use this system: cost of lot + shipping divided by how many figures/items I need from it. Then I decide if it's worth paying that price for each item. Also many things go through Global Shipping, so the income charges go up the higher the bidding goes. It would be hard to know who they are. My username on ebay starts with a G and ends with an I, but when I checked my abbreviation it's N***P. I guess the only way to know is if someone posted a lot they won and their abbrevation (plus feedback count) was the same. Oh yes, Tasha is hilarious. Archie. I like to imagine they are an evil IMP overlord. They sleep on a mattress made of IMP figures, and sport a devilish cape crafted from collect-a-files.

LOL. Someone should totally make a picture/drawing/image of that It definitely is frustrating to lose out on an auction because of auto bid, or even if you get sniped at the last moment. I was super disappointed to discover that an auction I was expecting to win was won by someone else. Ruined my whole day finding out I'd lost. But the upside to the story is that later I found the same pony family I'd lost and desperately wanted for a fraction of the price the other one had sold for, so in the end it actually turned out better ^^; Just goes to show that even if you miss out on one auction, another will come along eventually.
